EB360: What Happens When a Notification from Everbridge is Stopped in the Everbridge Manager Portal?

Question

What happens when a notification from Everbridge is stopped in the Everbridge Manager Portal?

Answer

When an active notification is stopped, messages stop being queued for delivery by the Everbridge notification engine. If the notification is stopped immediately after it is sent, some contacts may not receive the message. In most cases, the message has already been delivered to most or all targeted contacts before the notification is stopped.

Stopping a notification affects delivery channels differently, as outlined below.

Stopping an SMS Message

If the notification requested confirmation, contacts who already received the SMS message can still confirm receipt by tapping the confirmation URL or replying YES.

If a contact confirms receipt via SMS after the notification is stopped, the call result will display as "Confirmed" in the notification details.

Stopping an Email Message

If the stopped notification requested confirmation, then contacts who received the notification may NOT confirm receipt via email. If a contact attempts to confirm via email, they will receive this message:

It's important to note that once an email notification has been sent in Everbridge, there is no way to recall those emails. Stopping an active notification will only prevent additional emails from being sent, but cannot retrieve emails that have already been delivered to recipients' inboxes.

NOTE
Stopping a notification does NOT alert contacts that the notification has been stopped. To instruct contacts to disregard a notification, use a follow-up message.
