Question
Why do you see a view icon (eyeball) when looking at Incident Templates as an Incident Administrator? (Incidents > Templates)
Answer
Incident Administrator roles can be configured so that they cannot edit and save existing templates created by other incident administrators. These templates will display the view icon (eyeball) instead of the pencil (edit) icon. This indicates that you have view-only access to that template.
When you click a template with the view icon, you can still make changes by using the Save As option to save your changes under a different template name. This prevents the original template from being inadvertently modified.
If you do not see the pencil (edit) icon for templates you expect to be able to modify, it usually means your account's role does not have sufficient permissions or resource access to edit those templates. Incident templates are associated with the role that created them, and visibility/editing is controlled by both permissions and resource access.
Your role must have the appropriate permissions (for example, create/edit/delete incident templates).
Resource access for Incident Templates must be configured for your role in the Manager Portal (Access > Roles > select role > Edit Role > Resources tab).
Templates must be created while logged in as a user with that role for them to be owned by and fully editable for that role.
If you need to edit an existing template directly and you only see the view icon, contact your organization's administrator to update your role or assign a role with the required incident template permissions and resource access.
For information on how to configure the option that restricts Incident Administrators from editing and saving the original templates and scenarios created by other Incident Administrators, see knowledge article EBS: Restricting Incident Administrators From Editing and Saving the Original Incident Templates and Scenarios Created by Other Incident Administrators in Incident Communications.
