Question
What are Globally Local Notifications in Everbridge Suite?
Answer
The Everbridge Globally Local feature helps increase the success of international notifications and comply with local contact data protection regulations. Here are some examples of how phone numbers (for both voice and SMS) are dialed around the world, and how the Globally Local feature works.
A local call within the UK looks like this: 0-208-903-3459
- The leading 0 is the local access code within the UK.
A call from Mexico to the same UK number would look like this: 00-44-208-903-3459
- The leading 00 is the international access code from within Mexico, followed by country code 44 for the UK.
A call from the US to the same UK number would look like this: 011-44-208-903-3459
- The leading 011 is the international access code from within the US, followed by country code 44 for the UK.
This same UK number stored within the Everbridge Suite would look like this: +44 20 8903 3459
- Everbridge just needs the phone number, excluding any local access codes, international access codes, or international country codes.
- The Everbridge Globally Local feature will automatically figure out the rest based on the country selection.
Here are some additional examples and notes regarding phone numbers stored in Everbridge:
- The third-party website howtocallabroad.com is a useful resource to see what parts of a number are calling codes vs the actual phone number.
-
Remember: Everbridge only needs the actual phone number. Here are some more international examples of phone numbers:
- A recipient phone number in Mexico City: 55-1234-5678
- An SMS recipient in Germany: 15-1234-56789
- A phone recipient in Argentina: 291-555-1212
- An SMS recipient in China: 131-1234-5678
- Depending on a country’s population and size, the phone numbers can be as short as 4 digits and as long as 13 digits (excluding local/international access codes and country codes).
- Everbridge accepts phone/SMS number lengths between 4 and 13 digits.
Another part of Everbridge's Globally Local notification concept is the call-back number provided to customers to confirm receipt of their notification. For SMS, Everbridge has local SMS codes (some short and some long) for more than 45 countries. These SMS codes can be found under the Global SMS Codes tab in the Everbridge Support Center. For voice, Everbridge provides local, toll-free confirmation numbers for more than 20 countries. For a listing of the confirmation numbers, see knowledge article EBS: Global Inbound Application Phone Numbers for Use in Everbridge Suite.
