EB360: What Happens When a Notification From Everbridge Is Sent to Voicemail?

Question

What happens when a notification from Everbridge is sent to voicemail?

Answer

When notifications are sent to a contact's voicemail, the system detects this and plays a different message than it would for a live recipient. Instead of the interactive prompt used for live recipients, the system plays a message instructing the recipient to call back a provided number.

Depending on specific organization and/or notification settings, contacts may receive:

  • no message

  • the voice notification message

  • the voice notification message plus information to confirm receipt of the notification.

When a voice notification call is not answered, the system will log different statuses:

  • 'Not Delivered - No Answer' if the call is not picked up

  • 'Delivered - To Voicemail' if the call is answered but no interaction is detected

Note: Everbridge cannot control how third-party applications interpret or transcribe voicemail messages. The transcription is handled by the receiving device's application, and there are no settings within Everbridge that can modify this behavior.

See knowledge article EBS: Voicemail Settings and Preferences in Everbridge Suite for more information on how to configure your organization and notification settings for appropriate voicemail behavior.
