Quiet Period Settings

Enabling quiet period settings allows contacts using the member portal to specify a period of time during which they do not want to receive automated weather alerts.

To enable quiet period settings, follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to the Manager Portal and select the desired organization from the upper right-hand corner.
  2. Click on the Settings tab from the top of the page.
  3. Click the Member Portal sub-tab.
  4. Click Information Collection from the menu on the left-hand side.
  5. Click Alert Subscriptions from the sub-menu.
  6. Select the Edit link from the right of Quiet Period.
  7. Select the On radio button next to Status.
    1. Disabling the Members can modify this option from the Member Portal option after configuring quiet period settings will override any settings configured by contacts with the new quiet period settings.
  8. Click Save.

Beneficial quiet period setting suggestions include:

  • Selecting the checkboxes for both Automatically apply this option to all contacts and Members can modify this option from the Member Portal. Having both options selected not only allows contacts to choose their own quiet period, but will automatically apply one for those who might not have been able to do it themselves.
  • Setting the default quiet period time to an appropriate range that suits contact preferences.
  • Selecting appropriate override warning event alerts.

Alert Subscriptions

Beneficial alert subscription suggestions include:

  • Requiring only warnings for weather alerts decreases the chances contacts will receive unwanted alerts; advisories and watches generate alerts with a greater frequency.
  • Edit the hail and lightning alert weather templates to avoid excessive alerts. Unlike storms, hail and lightning are not recognized as single events.
Alert Subscriptions

To edit the weather templates, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the Manager Portal and select the desired organization from the upper right-hand corner.
  2. Click the Settings tab from the top of the page.
  3. Click the Member Portal sub-tab.
  4. Click Information Collection from the menu on the left-hand side.
  5. Click Alert Subscriptions from the sub-menu.
  6. Click the Edit link for a specific template, or the New or All clear link for default templates.
