How are IPAWS credentials stored in an Everbridge organization?

Answer:

IPAWS credentials are distributed to an alerting authority by FEMA. The credentials are packaged as an IPAWS certificate that can be stored and used in Everbridge organizations.

NOTE: An IPAWS certificate can only be applied to one organization.

To add an IPAWS certificate to an Everbridge organization, follow the steps below:

  1. Unzip the IPAWS certificate folder to access two files:
    1. the .txt file which contains the private key and keystore password.
    2. the .jks file which is the certificate.
  2. Log in to the Manager Portal and select the appropriate organization from the upper right-hand corner.
  3. Select Settings from the top menu bar.
  4. Select Publishing Options from the menu on the left.
  5. Select CAP Channels from the sub-menu.
  6. Click IPAWS from the next sub-menu.
  7. From either the Live or the Test Certificate pane, click Choose File and select the .jks file.
IPAWS Credentials
  1. Enter the numbers from the .jks file in the COG ID text box.
  2. Enter IPAWSOPENxxxx (replace x with the numbers from the .jks file) in the COG Alias text box.
  3. Click Save.

Storing Your IPAWS Credentials

Once your IPAWS certificates are added, you will be able to store your IPAWS credentials. Storing your credentials will eliminate security prompts that slow the use of IPAWS. To store your IPAWS credentials to your Everbridge organization, follow the steps listed below:

  1. Log in to the Manager Portal and select the appropriate organization from the upper right-hand corner.
  2. Select Settings from the top menu bar.
  3. Select Publishing Options from the menu on the left.
  4. Select CAP Channels from the sub-menu.
  5. Click IPAWS from the next sub-menu.
  6. Under the desired certificate, select the checkbox next to Store credentials to be used in places that requires a Private key and Keystore password.
Storing IPAWS Credentials
  1. You will find the credentials in the txt file inside the file that FEMA sent you.
  2. Enter the Private Key.
  3. Enter the Keystore Password.
  4. Enter a custom PIN.

The PIN created will be used instead of IPAWS credentials when sending IPAWS messages, viewing the IPAWS message history in the universe tab, or when retrieving the COG Profile.

  1. Selecting the checkbox next to Don't Use PIN, will not require IPAWS credentials or the PIN when sending IPAWS messages, viewing the IPAWS message history in the universe tab, or retrieving the COG Profile.

  1. Click Save.
