Managing Alert Subscriptions for Multiple Contacts in Everbridge

2026-07-24 18:08:55 UTC

This article explains the available options for updating Alert Subscriptions for more than one contact in Everbridge, including what is and is not possible in the user interface and the alternatives you can use instead.

Overview

Everbridge does not provide a way to mass edit Alert Subscriptions for contacts directly in the user interface. There is no option to upload a file or use an Excel import to subscribe many contacts to the same Alert Subscriptions at once, and there is no built-in bulk-edit screen for this purpose.

Available options

Option 1: Let contacts manage their own Alert Subscriptions (Member Portal)

One recommended approach is to allow contacts to update their own Alert Subscriptions through the Member Portal.

Expose Alert Subscriptions in the Member Portal

Configure your Information Collection settings so that Alert Subscriptions are visible in the Member Portal. This is done from the Information Collection page under Settings. Once Alert Subscriptions are exposed there, contacts will see the relevant fields when they log in.

Contacts subscribe themselves

After you have exposed Alert Subscriptions in the Member Portal, each contact can sign in and subscribe themselves to the alerts they want to receive. This approach avoids the need for administrators to touch every contact record individually.

Option 2: Use the Everbridge API for programmatic updates

If you need to update Alert Subscriptions for many contacts centrally, you can use the Everbridge API to programmatically modify Alert Subscription settings across multiple contact records. This allows you to automate the changes instead of editing each contact one by one in the user interface.

Option 3: Request a one-time assisted bulk update

If you cannot use the API but still need a bulk change, you can request a one-time assisted bulk update. To do this, contact your Account Manager, who can coordinate and schedule the bulk update on your behalf.

When other options are not feasible

If enabling Member Portal self-service is not feasible and you cannot use the API or an assisted bulk update, the remaining option is to open each contact record and edit that contact’s Alert Subscriptions individually.
