This article explains how to use Everbridge reporting tools to identify who changed user roles or custom role permissions, and when those changes occurred.
Overview
You can audit role and permission changes in your Everbridge account in two main ways:
- Review changes made to an individual user’s roles using the System Audit report.
- Find who modified a custom role’s permissions using the Event Log Report (security audit log) from an Account Administrator account.
Check who changed an individual user’s roles
Use the System Audit report in the Everbridge web interface to review changes made to a specific user’s roles.
- Open the Everbridge Manager Portal and navigate to the System Audit report.
- Set the date range to cover the period when you believe the role change occurred.
- Optionally, filter the report by the affected user’s name to narrow the results.
- Review the rows returned for that user and look at the Action and Status fields.
The Action and Status fields show what change occurred, when it was made, and which account performed the change, providing an audit trail for role and permission modifications on that user account.
Find who modified a custom role’s permissions
To see who changed a custom role’s permissions, use the Event Log Report (security audit log) from an Account Administrator account.
- Log in to the Everbridge Manager Portal as an Account Administrator.
- Go to Settings → Security → Event Log Report.
- Enter the desired date range for your search.
- The date range must be within a single calendar month.
- The date range must be within the last 12 months.
- In the Report Type dropdown, select Security.
- Generate the report. It will be delivered to the account email associated with the administrator.
Once you download the report, review the entries related to role or permission updates to identify who modified the custom role and when.
Important considerations
When using the Event Log Report to audit custom role permission changes, keep these points in mind:
- Do not make further role or user-account modifications before downloading the generated report.
- Subsequent changes can overwrite existing log history and prevent recovery of the original change entries in the audit log.
By following these steps and constraints, you can maintain a reliable audit trail for role and permission changes in your Everbridge account.
