This article describes the file upload limits and supported file types for Secure Chat across Everbridge platforms, and provides basic guidance for resolving file upload errors related to file size and format.
Description
File attachment limits and supported file types in Secure Chat differ between Everbridge platforms. Administrators and support teams should be aware of these platform-specific limits to correctly configure usage expectations and to troubleshoot file upload issues.
Limits and supported file types depend on the Everbridge platform in use:
- Everbridge Member Portal (Secure Chat)
- Maximum file size is 20 MB per file.
- Supported file types are restricted to JPEG images (jpg, jpeg and related JPEG extensions).
- Everbridge 360 App (Secure Chat)
- Maximum file size is 50 MB per file.
- Any file type can be uploaded.
- Secure Collaboration (Directory Chat / Incident Chat) using a PubNub backend
- Maximum file size is 5 MB per file.
- Supported file types can include PDF, JPEG, PNG, DOCX, and MP4, but supported types may vary by environment.
These limits are not consistent across platforms and are subject to change. For some platforms, only the maximum file size is documented, while for others both file size and file type behavior are defined. For example, the Everbridge Member Portal supports up to 20 MB per file, and the Everbridge 360 App supports up to 50 MB per file.
If a file exceeds the platform limit, an error is shown and the upload fails. On platforms where only certain file types are supported, attempting to upload an unsupported file type also results in an error.
In the Everbridge Member Portal’s Secure Chat, only JPEG image formats (jpg, jpeg and related JPEG extensions) are supported and the maximum file size is 20 MB per file. In the Everbridge 360 App’s Secure Chat, files of any type can be uploaded and the maximum file size is 50 MB per file.
File size limits can vary between different Everbridge chat platforms, and in some cases error messages can appear even when the file is under the documented limit. There is a known issue where error messages about file size may appear for files that are well below these limits.
If you experience file upload errors in Secure Chat, the following basic recommendations apply:
- Confirm that the file type matches the supported formats for your platform (JPEG for Member Portal; any type for Everbridge 360 App).
- Ensure the file size is well below the documented limit (for example, under 20 MB for the Member Portal).
- If the error persists with a small, valid file, try reloading the page.
Because file-size and file-type limits may change over time and can differ across chat experiences, administrators and support teams should use these values as current guidance and verify the behavior in their own environment if file uploads do not behave as expected.
