How to delete locations that have events associated with devices within them.
Description
When attempting to delete locations that contain devices which have raised events, you may encounter errors preventing the deletion. This article explains the process for successfully deleting such locations.
Why Locations With Associated Device Events Cannot Be Deleted Immediately
Locations that contain devices which have raised events cannot be deleted immediately because of the active event data associated with them. The system prevents deletion to maintain data integrity and event history.
Steps to Delete Locations With Associated Device Events
- Identify the locations you wish to delete.
- Check if there are any events associated with devices within these locations.
- If events exist, you must wait for the system's archiving process to complete.
- The archiving process will automatically archive older events according to the system's retention policy.
- Once all events associated with the devices in the location have been archived, you can proceed with deleting the location.
Handling Empty Locations That Cause Errors
Even if a location appears empty, it may still have historical events associated with devices that were previously in that location. To resolve this:
- Ensure that there are no events associated with any devices within the location.
- If events are still present, wait for the archiving process to complete.
- After all events have been archived, you will be able to delete the location without errors.
Note: The archiving process runs automatically based on your system's configuration. You cannot manually force the archiving of events to expedite location deletion.
