Organizations that utilize Slack can integrate it with Everbridge Suite to send Notifications, Incidents, and Communications to their contacts. This article describes implementing it as a new integration.
Description
Feature Scope
Before starting the implementation process, consider the capabilities and limitations of its scope. This integration allows:
- Slack as a Delivery Method will allow Organizations to send Everbridge Notifications, Incidents, and Communications to their contacts via Slack.
- Recipients will be able to confirm receipt and respond to polling questions.
- Like all other Delivery Methods, responses will be captured on the Notification Details page.
This integration will not support:
- Other Slack features, such as joining contacts in a Slack Huddle or group chat.
- Custom Slack messages.
In addition to the above, the initial version of this integration lacks the following planned functionality:
- No two-way chat with a live person. Responses are only supported via buttons.
- No authentication or opt-in is needed from contacts to receive messages in Slack. They can receive messages once the app has been installed and the delivery method configured in their contact record.
Requirements
The following criteria must be met to successfully implement Slack as a Delivery Method:
- The Organization must have a Slack account/workspace.
- The Organization needs a Slack administrator with appropriate permissions to install the chatbot in their workspace.
New Implementation
To implement a fresh instance of this integration as a Slack administrator:
- Log in to the Manager Portal, and from the Organization level, navigate to Settings > Notifications > Integrations.
- Click Add to Slack.
- Select the workspace to install the Everbridge Slack app.
- Review the requested permissions before clicking Allow to confirm and install.
- Slack will be installed to the designated workspace. This installation can be uninstalled as needed by clicking Revoke.
- Once installed, Slack can be added to the Organization as a Delivery Method from Settings > Notifications > Delivery Methods.
- After the Delivery Method has been created, it needs to be added to the recipients contact records. Note that the Device Address is what is defined in the Slack workspace for the contact (typically email address).
The Delivery Method can be added to a contact record in one of two ways:- Manually update contact record.
- Perform a contact upload.
- When sending a message, choose Slack under Delivery Methods for any contacts that have it defined in their contact record.
- Once sent, the message will appear in the recipients' Slack app.
