EBS: Extending the Incident Zone Notification Beyond the Default

Topic

How to extend the Incident Zone Notification duration beyond the five-hour Everbridge default without sending an additional notification.

Description

To extend the Incident Zone Notification duration in Everbridge, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the Everbridge Manager Portal and select your Organization.

  2. Select Communications > Incidents > Templates > Default Options.

  3. Select the pencil icon to edit the relevant Incident template or add a new template.

  4. Select Settings in the template.

  5. Modify the Notification Duration:

  • For Contacts outside the selected polygon, the default duration is set to five hours. This can be adjusted in the template settings.

    • For Contacts inside the polygon, you can extend the duration to more than ten hours or as specified by the Organization Admin.

  1. Control repeat sends (Contact Cycles and Cycle Interval):

  • From the same Incident template Settings area, open the notification template used for the incident.

    • Adjust Contact Cycles to control how many times the notification is resent to the same Contacts (set to 1 to send only once during the incident).

    • Adjust the Cycle Interval to control the delay between repeated sends when multiple cycles are configured.

    • Changes to Contact Cycles and Cycle Interval affect how often Contacts are notified, but do not by themselves extend or shorten the Incident's active duration.

  1. Refine geographic targeting to avoid notifying Contacts outside the intended area:

  • Review the notification filter or recipient selection used by the Incident workflow (for example, affected Contacts within a radius of the Incident Zone).

    • Reduce the geographic radius or adjust the filter criteria so that only Contacts in the correct country or area (for example, inside the Incident Zone polygon or a narrower radius) are included.

    • Updating these filter settings helps prevent unintended recipients outside the target area from being notified while the Incident remains active.

  1. Ensure no additional notification is sent when extending duration:

  • Adjusting the duration in the template settings will not trigger a new Notification. It simply extends the time the Incident remains active.

  1. Click Save.

  • After making the necessary adjustments, ensure you save the changes to the template.
By following these steps, you can effectively manage the duration of your Incident Notifications, control repeat sends, and fine-tune audience targeting without sending additional alerts.
