By default, Everbridge Desktop Alerting (EDA) is not a supported publishing option when launching a Scenario. This page details how to use EDA with Scenarios by leveraging Email Ingestion as a workaround.
Description
To use Everbridge Desktop Alerting with Scenarios:
- Note the email used for the Email Ingestion.
Organization > Settings > Everbridge Open > Email Ingestion > Sent from field.
This is the value in the "Sent from" field. By default this email is "no-reply@everbridge.com". If you use a "Custom From" address, then this email is the "Custom From" email address.
- Create a contact with only Email set as its sole delivery method - this is the "Ingestion Contact".
- Give this contact the same email address that is being used for the email ingestion.
- Add the Ingestion Contact as a recipient to any Incident templates attached to a Scenario that needs to use EDA as a publishing option.
-
- Find the Incident template associated with the Scenario
Communications > Incidents > Scenarios > select {scenario name}
-
- Add the Ingestion Contact as a recipient to the Incident template
Communications > Incidents > Templates > edit {template name} > Contacts
- Set the publishing options for the above Incident template to only Everbridge Desktop Alerting.
The email ingestion rules dictate that whenever the Ingestion Contact's email address receives an email from the Organization's email address, it triggers the Incident with EDA configured as the only delivery method, thus launching the included Scenario.
The image below illustrates that for every Scenario launched (1), a subsequent Incident is launched from the email ingestion (2).

It would be good to add to the article some of the limitations of the email ingestion method. Two examples I have encountered so far include;
1 you cannot specify in the Manage option to switch the template from the New template to the Updated or Closed templates,
2. You don't seem to be able to change from Live Mode to Exercise Mode when using the email ingestion mode.
It would be good to know that these are limitations of this integration method and may require the use of the API integration method for this more sophisticated requirements rather than having to submit a support request to validate that I am not just missing a setting somewhere and these options are available.
