MobileHelp: User Geolocation in the Everbridge Mobile App

Question:

How often does the Everbridge Mobile app use my location?

I belong to an organization using Private Incident Zones; how often is my location sent to Everbridge?

Answer:

The Everbridge Mobile app uses location information differently depending on the type of mobile device the app is installed on. See the respective sections below for more information.

To adjust how your location is used for Incident Zone notifications, please see the following article: Location Settings in the Everbridge Mobile App.

iOS Devices

If Allow Location Access has been set to Always, the Everbridge Mobile app will update your location in the following circumstances:

  • Your location changes by five hundred meters or more. If you are travelling through areas with limited cellular service, your location might be updated after greater changes in position.
  • You are stationary, using the Local page within the app, and you remain in the same location for fifteen minutes.
  • If Auto Check-In is enabled in your Safety Settings, your location will be updated whenever the app detects a change in position of five hundred meters or more, or when you launch the app.
  • You minimize the app so it runs in the background.
  • You tap Crosshair Icon on the Local page.
  • If Airplane Mode is activated on your iOS device, your location will be updated after you deactivate Airplane Mode, provided your location has changed by one hundred meters or more.

If Allow Location Access has been set to While Using the App, your location will only be updated when you tap Crosshair Icon on the Local page.

If the iOS device is turned off, or if the app is closed (pressing the home button twice, and then swiping up on the app), your location will not be updated.

If Location Services have been disabled in the iOS device's Privacy settings, your location will not be updated.

Android Devices

The Everbridge Mobile app will update your location in the following circumstances:

  • To increase accuracy, your location will be updated when you travel five hundred meters or more. This occurs when the app is in the foreground, in the background, or it has been closed.
  • You tap Crosshair Icon on the Local page.
