Recipients who receive Everbridge SMS notifications can reply to a message using one of the supported keywords below to stop receiving SMS notifications.

Accepted unsubscribe keywords are:

  • STOP
  • END
  • UNSUBSCRIBE
  • QUIT
  • CANCEL

IMPORTANT: There are no buttons or menu options labeled with these keywords. To unsubscribe from SMS messages, type one of the keywords above as a reply to the SMS message.

The Process:

  1. You receive an SMS notification on your mobile device.

SMS Received

  1. Reply to the SMS message using one of the supported keywords (STOP, END, UNSUBSCRIBE, QUIT, or CANCEL). Keywords must be spelled out in English. You may use either the keyboard or microphone on your mobile device to compose the message.

    Replying with STOP

  2. Send the reply message.
Depending on the country and carrier used, you may receive an automatic response confirming the unsubscribe request.
    Opt Out Confirmation

IMPORTANT: Even if a confirmation message is not received, the unsubscribe request may still be successful and SMS notifications from Everbridge may stop being delivered to the mobile number.

  3. If one of the supported unsubscribe keywords is detected at the beginning of the reply message, the mobile phone number is added to the Everbridge unsubscribe list.

Additional Information

Messages that begin with words such as STOP may automatically be treated as unsubscribe requests. To avoid accidentally unsubscribing, avoid starting replies with unsubscribe keywords unless the intent is to opt out of SMS notifications.

How All Other Recipients Can Unsubscribe from SMS Messages

Recipients of public notifications can unsubscribe in the same way by replying to a received SMS message with one of the supported keywords (STOP, END, UNSUBSCRIBE, QUIT, or CANCEL).

Additionally, recipients can reply with STOP ALL to opt-out of SMS messages from all organizations using the Everbridge platform.

Please note there are no buttons labelled with these keywords. The keywords must be spelled out and be in the English U.S. language.

Additionally, reply with 'STOP ALL' to opt-out of SMS messages from all organizations using the Everbridge platform. This is particularly useful if you are registered with multiple organizations that use Everbridge for notifications.

For Nixle text message alerts specifically, recipients can text STOP to 888777 to unsubscribe from a specific ZIP code or keyword, or text STOPALL to opt-out from all ZIP codes and keywords.
