Question

Why doesn't an airport IATA Code appear in the drop-down list when adding an Expected Location to a contact record? (Contacts/Assets > Contacts > Contact List > {Edit contact} > Dynamic Location(s) - Expected > + New expected location.)

Answer

Private and regional airports may not have an IATA code. This is most likely the reason the airport IATA code is not found when you enter the three-letter code in the Location Name search box.

If the town or destination itself does not have its own IATA location identifier, use the nearest commercial airport’s IATA code when specifying the Expected Location. For example, Saint-Paul-en-Jarez, France, does not have its own IATA code; the nearest airport is Saint-Étienne–Loire Airport (IATA code EBU), approximately 14 miles (22.5 km) away. In similar cases, search for and select the closest airport with a valid IATA code.

Additional Information

IATA (International Air Transport Association) is a trade association that represents commercial airlines. IATA codes are mainly used for ticketing and travel itineraries on commercial flights. The assignment of these codes is administered by the Montreal-based International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the codes cover locations (mainly airports) around the globe. See the IATA website for more information and/or to look up an IATA code.
