Integrating Alertus with Everbridge.

Description

Alertus is an Everbridge Partner providing desktop alerts, alert beacons, and digital signage. The Alertus Profile in Everbridge provides a way for personnel to relay important emergency alerts to Alertus endpoints when launching Notifications or Incidents from the Everbridge Manager Portal. Alertus profiles usually refer to Alertus signage/display in various locations.

Example of when to use Alertus:

A college campus wants to inform people about a mock fire drill that will be taking place in one of the campus buildings. To do that, an Alertus Profile of the respective TV display's endpoint can be configured in the Everbridge Manager Portal. An Everbridge Notification could then be sent to the Alertus Profile of the building's TV display under Publishing Options of the Notification.

Everbridge to Alertus Integration

An Incident/Notification launched in Everbridge can activate Alertus (client-server software) endpoints.

Prerequisite: An Alertus Profile must be configured in Everbridge (any number of Profiles are allowed).

REST API or SOAP API

The REST API or SOAP API is referred to as the Alertus Connector internally in Everbridge.

  1. Supported for both Notifications and Incidents.
  2. Set up the Alertus Profile under REST WEB SERVICES (for REST API) or SOAP WEB SERVICES (for SOAP API).

The differences between Classic (SOAP Web Services) and Advanced (REST Web Services) are:

  • Classic SOAP API is an older integration with the Alertus SOAP Web Services that allows alerts to be sent to only one Alertus Profile/Group,
  • Advanced REST API is an integration with the new Alertus REST Services and allows alerts to be sent to up to ten different combinations of Alertus Profiles/Groups.

Setting up the Integration

Configure an Alertus profile, then launch an Everbridge Notification by selecting that profile under the publishing options of the Notification.

Configure an Alertus profile

Prerequisite: The Alertus Connector (REST and/or SOAP Web Services) must be enabled for your organization. If it is not enabled for your tenant, the SettingsOrganizationPublishing OptionsAlertus menu path will not be visible.

  1. If the Alertus option is not visible under Publishing Options, submit a request to Everbridge to enable the Alertus Connector for your organization. Everbridge Technical Support may need approval from your account manager and will confirm when the feature is enabled.
  2. Log in to the Everbridge Manager Portal and select your Organization.
  3. Select Settings > Organization > Publishing Options > Alertus.
  4. Select + New REST Web Service under REST WEB SERVICES or + New SOAP Web Service under SOAP WEB SERVICES.
  5. Populate the fields. All fields are required.
  6. Click Save

Troubleshooting Alertus Integration

Resolving 'Invalid URL' Error

If you receive an 'invalid URL' error when configuring Alertus publishing options, check for these common issues:

  1. Use domain names instead of IP addresses in SOAP URLs.
  2. Ensure all current Everbridge outbound IP addresses are permit listed (allow listed) on your Alertus server and in any relevant firewall rules.
  3. Verify the IP addresses and endpoint settings in the alertusmiddleware.impl.properties file.
  4. Restart the Alertus service after making configuration changes.
  5. If DNS resolution is an issue, confirm that the domain can be correctly resolved to the IP address.

If the URL format and DNS configuration are correct but the error persists:

  • Confirm that the Alertus Connector (REST and/or SOAP Web Services) is enabled for your Everbridge tenant. If it is not enabled, the SettingsOrganizationPublishing OptionsAlertus menu path will not appear and any configured URLs will not function.
  • Ask your network/security team to verify that connections from Everbridge to your Alertus server are reaching the correct host and port, and that no security device is intercepting or rewriting the URL.
  • Review Alertus server logs for entries that correspond to Everbridge connection attempts to identify mismatched paths, ports, or protocol (HTTP vs HTTPS).

If you still see an 'invalid URL' error after these checks, contact Everbridge Technical Support and Alertus Support with:

  • The exact URL you are entering in the Alertus configuration in Everbridge (mask any sensitive hostnames as needed).
  • Timestamp(s) of recent failed attempts.
  • Relevant excerpts from Alertus server logs and any firewall/proxy logs showing the rejected requests.
