How to create groups by uploading a CSV file in Everbridge Suite.
Description
Preparing the CSV file:
Follow the steps below if you already have a list of the contacts who need to be added to the new group and prepare your CSV file:
- Ensure your contact list has the six columns listed below and ensure they match the exact format as the contact record reads in Everbridge.
- First Name
- Last Name
- External ID
- Record Type
- Groups
- END
- Under the Groups column, replace any current groups with *| (asterisk pipe). An *| will allow contacts to retain their existing groups and be added to a new group. Following the *| will be the name of the new group. For example, if the new group's name is "Managers", your Groups column should read as "*|Managers". Note: The *| mechanism only works with Update type uploads. - Finally, save your contact list CSV file.
Follow the steps below to download the contacts from Everbridge and prepare your CSV file:
- Log in to the Manager Portal and select the desired organization from the upper right-hand corner.
- Click on the Contacts > Contact List tab.
- Select the contacts you wish to be added to the new group by conducting an Advanced search or manually selecting the contacts.
- Once the contacts are selected, click the Download button from the Contacts sub-tab.
- Delete all columns except for the following:
- First Name
- Last Name
- External ID
- Record Type
- Groups
- END

- Save your contact list CSV file.
Uploading the CSV File:
- Log in to the Manager Portal and select the desired organization from the upper right-hand corner.
- Click on the Contacts tab from the top of the page.
- Click the Uploads sub-tab, then click the Upload to portal button.
- Click the Upload Contacts link, then select the updated contacts CSV file.
- With Update selected, then click the Upload to portal button.
