EBS: Can Non-GSM or Unicode Characters Be Used When Creating an SMS Notification in Everbridge Suite?

Question:

Can non-GSM or Unicode characters be used when creating an SMS notification in Everbridge Suite?

Answer:

Non-GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) and Unicode characters cannot be used when creating a notification; however, these characters can be copied and pasted into the notification when using a different text editor.

Using a non-GSM or Unicode character in the message body of a notification will separate the accompanying SMS message or messages at 70 characters (or less) instead of the standard 160 characters.

More information regarding how non-GSM and Unicode characters interact with SMS messages can be found here: https://www.twilio.com/help/faq/sms/why-are-my-messages-with-unicode-being-split.
