How to create notifications in multiple languages.
Description
A single notification will not be translated into multiple languages by Everbridge. You must create an additional information field for contacts based on language, create rules to filter contacts based on language, and then create a notification in the target language in order to send notifications in multiple languages. This process also allows community members to select their preferred language when registering through the Member Portal.
To create an additional information field for contacts based on language
Log in to the Manager Portal.
Under Settings, click Organization, then Contacts and Groups (or Contacts/Assets if you have Asset Management enabled)
Select Additional Information, then + Add.
Under ADD FIELDS, fill in:
Name (Language or Preferred Language would be good options.)
Data Type (Text.)
Display format (Single Selection List.)
Selection Options (The specific languages would go here, such as English, Spanish, etc.)
+ Add Another Item for adding additional options.
Select Save.
To create a rule to filter contacts based on language:
Log in to the Manager Portal.
Under Contacts (or Contacts/Assets if you have Asset Management enabled), click Rules, then + Add.
Under ADD RULE:
Fill in Rule name (Specific languages would be good options, e.g., "Spanish Language Contacts")
Click Select field, then under Additional information, select the specific field you created for languages.
The starts with drop-down can be left alone or you can select a different option based on your preference.
Fill in the box next to the drop-down with the specific language you want to filter in (e.g., "Spanish").
Select Save. You can also select Contact Preview to view the contacts that would be selected if you were to use this rule in a notification
To create a notification in the target language:
Log in to the Manager Portal.
Under Notifications, select + New Notification.
Fill out the notification appropriately. Be sure to write the message title and message body in the target language.
Under Contacts, select Rules, and then select the rule you created for the language of the notification.
Under Settings, select Edit, then More options.
At the bottom of the list, next to Language, select the appropriate language from the drop-down list. This setting controls system-generated elements such as voice prompts and text-to-speech accent; it does not translate your message title or body—you must enter the translated content manually.
Under Send & Save, optionally select Save as Template to reuse this notification for future events in the same language.
Select Send.
Tips for Setting Up Multilingual Scenarios
Write the original message in the primary language first.
Add the translated version below using the same title.
Create and maintain separate notification templates for each language. For each template, manually enter the translated message title and body, and configure the Language setting so that system prompts and text-to-speech use the appropriate language and accent.
Note that the platform supports standard language translations for system elements but may have limitations with specific dialect variations (for example, it does not support French-Canadian as a distinct option).
Verifying Multilingual Notifications
Ensure that language-specific variables are included in the data fields.
Check the notification details in the report after sending.
If language-specific text is not showing in older reports, you may need to explicitly include the language-specific fields in your report configuration.
Contact support if you are unsure about the specific notification's language settings.
