Dynamic Groups - What they are and how to create them in Everbridge Suite.

Dynamic groups are a collection of contacts that can be assigned to and accessed by specific user roles in Everbridge Suite. Dynamic groups do not display as a normal group; rather, dynamic groups update based upon the individuals who meet the selected criteria at the point of a notification.

Though both roles can create dynamic groups, the steps differ between an account administrator role and an organization administrator. See each respective section for the specific steps.

Account Administrator

To create a dynamic group as an account administrator, follow the steps listed below:

  1. Log in to the Manager Portal and select the desired organization from the upper right-hand corner.
  2. Click the Roles tab from the top of the page.
  3. Select the radio button next to "View roles for Organization" and select the desired organization from the drop-down list to the right.
  4. Select the desired role that will access the dynamic group from the left-hand side of the page.
  5. Click the Manage link next to Dynamic Group.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Enter a Name for the dynamic group in the text field and assign a color.
  8. Create custom filters by selecting a field from the Select Field drop-down menu and assigning a Condition and Value.
    1. For example, to update groups based off of an individuals country, select Location Country from the drop-down menu.
    2. Select is equal to from the drop-down menu under Condition.
    3. Select the desired country from the drop-down menu under Value.
  9. Click Save.
    1. Dynamic groups can be edited by clicking on the pencil icon and deleted by clicking the trash can icon from the dynamic group list.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Select the desired dynamic groups to allow this specific role to access and click Save.

Organization Administrator

To create a dynamic group as an organization administrator, follow the steps listed below:

  1. Log in to the Manager Portal and select the desired organization from the upper right-hand corner.
  2. Click on the Access tab from the top of the page.
  3. Click on the Roles sub-tab.
  4. Select the desired role that will access the dynamic group from the left-hand side of the page.
  5. Click on the Manage link next to Dynamic Group.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Enter a Name for the dynamic group in the text field and assign a color.
  8. Create custom filters by selecting a field from the Select Field drop-down menu and assigning a Condition and Value.
    1. For example, if you would like to update groups based off of an individuals country, select Location Country from the drop-down menu.
    2. Select is equal to from the drop-down menu under Condition.
    3. Select the desired country from the drop-down menu under Value.
    4. Filters can be removed from the Custom Filters pane by choosing Trash Can Icon.
  9. Click Save.
    1. Dynamic groups can be edited by clicking on the pencil icon and deleted by clicking the trash can icon from the dynamic group list.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Select the desired dynamic groups to allow this specific role to access and click Save.

Creating a Notification Using a Dynamic Group Contact Layer

Follow the steps listed below to select contacts using a dynamic group contact layer for a notification from the Universe tab.

  1. Log in to the Manager Portal and select the desired organization from the upper left-hand corner.
  2. Click on the Universe tab from the top of the page.
  3. From the Select Contacts drop-down menu, select Contact Layers.
  4. From the Contact Layers pane, select the radio button for Groups.
  5. Scroll down and select the desired dynamic groups to show their respective contacts on the map.
    1. NOTE: Contacts within the dynamic groups must have a Static Location, Last Known Location, or Expected location to appear as dots on the map.
  6. Click on Draw Shapes and draw a complete shape.
  7. Click New Notification from the upper right-hand corner to notify the contacts selected in the shape.
  8. Build the notification as desired and send.
